The Software and IT and Equipment sectors represent almost 50% of total GA technology employment. With the Internet and Multi-media, Software, and Entertainment adding the most new technology jobs, occupations such as applications developers and project managers are becoming the most critical jobs.
Signs of a talent gap within the GA technology market persist. According to market leaders, the technology talent is an average 7.65 on a 10-point scale which indicates a generally “fair” assessment. Perceptions of talent quality have not improved since 2015.
Technology leaders believe the biggest issues affecting technology talent are the ability to retain talent (particularly the millennial workforce), upskill of the current workforce, and finding qualified talent for open positions. Most companies are relying on internal references, personal networking, and LinkedIn as the best ways to find qualified talent.
As more companies are focusing on “big data” and sophisticated analytics for services and operations, the ability to find AI, data scientists and big data modelers is regarded as some of the most difficult positions to fill.
